Footnote on divorce from Irving Northrup --submitted by Marge Graff in email dated 25 August 2001
Anna's divorve (from Irving Northrup) was the scandal of the family and never spoken about. When my grandmother Nephew died, I got a basket
that had belonged to her mother. In it was a copy of her divorce decree. We found it interesting that Irving Northrup failed to serve any answer to
the complaint of Anna (Hinman) Northrup. As defendant he was found "guilty of many of the several acts of adultery alleged." The marriage
therefore, was "hereby dissolved and annulled and the parties are and each of them is freed from the obligations thereof, and it is further alleged
and decreed, that it shall be lawful for the said plaintiff Anna M. Northrup, to marry again in the same manner as though the said defendant Irving Northrup were actually dead, but it shall not be lawful for the said defendant Irving J. Northrup to marry again until the said plaintiff Anna M.
Northrup is actually dead." She was allowed to assume her maiden name and "her true and lawful name." He also had to pay to her the costs of this
action -- $78.38
